Lidl Hungary has invested nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million, in a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. As the retailer’s largest warehouse in the country, this facility spans over 83,000 square meters and is set to supply around 70 stores. The development marks a significant expansion for Lidl, enhancing its distribution capabilities across Hungary.
The new logistics center has created more than 400 jobs, with plans to employ an additional 50 people soon. Equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the facility is designed with an emphasis on sustainability. It features a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on its rooftop and utilizes waste heat from its refrigeration system for underfloor heating, showcasing Lidl’s commitment to energy efficiency.
In addition to its operational features, the site includes a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, contributing to the environmental sustainability of the project. The center is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Lidl’s nationwide supply chain, with approximately 4,500 pallets of goods slated to be dispatched daily.
Lidl currently operates 220 stores throughout Hungary, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The establishment of this logistics hub is poised to support the retailer’s growth strategy and boost its operations within the domestic market. This investment underscores Lidl’s dedication to enhancing its infrastructure and expanding its footprint in Hungary.
